September is apparently my Milestone Month
The other day my photos app showed me a ‘memory’ from 3 years ago on that same day. It was an overhead shot of my gear in preparation for my first editorial assignment for Bergwelten Magazin.

Preparing for my first Bergwelten assignment
I remember being so excited, and was convinced I would from then on be one of the coolest people in town.
Exactly a year after that first memory photo is another overhead shot; for a bigger editorial assignment, with more photography AND climbing gear- photographed in my bigger apartment. Apparently I had moved up in the world (in reality I just moved across town). Still poor, still dreaming.

preparing for a multi-day assignment including beer drinking and mountain climbing..
The year after that on the exact day I was sailing- but I’ve learned that taking breaks is important too!
Technically that was in the middle of my first solo exhibition, which was a pretty important milestone for my personal work.
This year in September, I was wrapping up research for an upcoming assignment, a magnitude larger than those previous assignments.
While I don’t like to bask in my self-imposed temporary glorification, I believe it’s important for myself to acknowledge these achievements, while simultaneously admiring the fact that even though I may have achieved those goals, I’m still so far from where I want to be.
These three years have been an immense learning experience. In the past year alone I have attended various workshops, portfolio reviews, avalanche safety training, sailing courses, and climbing courses. They aren’t all work-related, but they kind of are in some way. I already have project ideas for the boat, and the mountain, and a lot in between. The more I learn, the more I discover that I have so much more to learn.
So here’s to learning, discovering, and awaiting the unexpected. I’m looking forward to whatever lies ahead..
